Our building, the Vybek, was built in 1910 and was formerly Fort Worth Pharmacy, Atlantic Coffee Co., a cut-rate drug store and Thompson’s Bookstore. The latter opened in 1972 and closed in 1993. Rumor has it, it was once a brothel. You never know, prohibition was intense, and this was Hell’s Half Acre. The bar you know today opened in the Spring of 2015.

Speakeasies sprang up in the 1920’s during Prohibition when liquor sales were illegal, hence the reason for a password. After Prohibition was repealed in 1933, the term lay dormant for a few decades until the craft cocktail movement when bartenders started digging into the archives and mixing up classic Prohibition-era drinks.
